U.S. News & World Report's Best Colleges 2015. Mount St. Mary's University was named one of the top 20 best universities in the region by U.S. News & World Report. MSMU was selected 19th of 138 universities in the Regional Universities-North Division, advancing in the ratings for the third year in a row. Additionally, the Mount ranked #3 for best colleges for veterans in the north region.

Newman Guide lists the Mount as one of the top Catholic colleges. Mount St. Mary's University is named one of the top Catholic colleges in the nation in the 2014 edition of The Newman Guide to Choosing a Catholic College. MSMU is among 28 recommended institutions including 22 four-year colleges and universities in the United States, four institutions providing English-language instruction in other countries (Canada, Italy and Australia) and two online programs. The Mount has been listed in every edition of the Guide since its first release in 2007.
MSMU is one of two colleges in Maryland recognized as a Catholic Colleges of Distinction. To be a College of Distinction, a school must be: nationally recognized by education professionals as an excellent school; strongly focused on teaching undergraduates; home to a wide variety of innovative learning experiences; an active campus with many opportunities for personal development; and highly valued by graduate schools and employers for its outstanding preparation.
The National Catholic Register selected Mount St. Mary's University as one of 38 institutions in its Catholic Identity Guide 2014. The Guide describes MSMU as "faithfully Catholic" - and basing its findings on essential elements of the renewal of Catholic identity called for by Pope John Paul II's 1990 apostolic constitution on higher education, Ex Corde Ecclesiae, (Out of the Heart of the Church), and other relevant Church documents.
In 2013 BestColleges.com listed Mount St. Mary's University among The Best Catholic Colleges. Reaching number 21 out of 262 Catholic higher education institutions in America, MSMU was ranked by acceptance rate, enrollment, test scores, surveys and other data related to academics, faculty and faith.
