U.S. News & World Report's Best Colleges 2016. For the 6th year in a row, Mount St. Mary’s University is ranked among the North region’s top 25 top colleges and universities by U.S. News & World Report. MSMU placed 22nd among 130 institutions in the region and second among Maryland’s eight other public and private regional universities.

Newman Guide to Colleges Logo

Newman Guide lists the Mount as one of the top Catholic colleges. Mount St. Mary's University is named one of the top Catholic colleges in the nation in the latest edition of The Newman Guide to Choosing a Catholic College. MSMU is among 28 recommended institutions including 22 four-year colleges and universities in the United States, four institutions providing English-language instruction in other countries (Canada, Italy and Australia) and two online programs. The Mount has been listed in every edition of the Guide since its first release in 2007.

Catholic Colleges of Distinction badge

MSMU is one of two colleges in Maryland recognized as a Catholic Colleges of Distinction. To be a College of Distinction, a school must be: nationally recognized by education professionals as an excellent school; strongly focused on teaching undergraduates; home to a wide variety of innovative learning experiences; an active campus with many opportunities for personal development; and highly valued by graduate schools and employers for its outstanding preparation.

National Catholic Register

The National Catholic Register selected Mount St. Mary's University as one of 39 institutions in its Catholic Identity Guide 2015. The Guide describes MSMU as "joyfully Catholic" - and basing its findings on essential elements of the renewal of Catholic identity called for by Pope John Paul II's 1990 apostolic constitution on higher education, Ex Corde Ecclesiae, (Out of the Heart of the Church), and other relevant Church documents.
