Mount Students Attend Teachers of Promise Institute
Emmitsburg, Maryland - Mount St. Mary’s University Education students— Emily Guertin, C '13, Ashley Rozanski, C '13, Margaret Kenney, C '13 and Joni Herrell, MAT, Amy Allison, MAT, attended the 2013 Teachers of Promise Institute on April 12 along with Mount Assistant Professor of Education Stacey Brown-Hobbs, Ph.D., PDS Liaison, and Dean of the School of Education and Human Services Barbara Martin Palmer, Ph.D.
Teachers of Promise, created to recognize and support the best prospective public school teachers in Maryland, invites top-students to attend its annual institute. Here, a select group of teacher candidates—graduating with a degree in Education—meet mentors and engage in interactive discussions focusing on issues around teaching, learning, and education change.
It was a day of learning as some of the nation’s top educators addressed the attendees, including 2011 Maryland and National Teacher of the Year - Michelle Shearer and State Superintendent Lillian Lowery. Ph.D.
The Institute is meant to attract and maintain the best and the brightest teachers to Maryland public schools. The institute was sponsored by the Maryland State Department of Education, Maryland Independent Colleges and Universities, SMART Technologies, and Comcast.
