Student Journal of Philosphy and Theology: Tolle Lege, now available

Mount St. Mary's University Emmitsburg, Maryland – The latest edition of the Mount St. Mary’s University Tolle Lege is now available in print and online.   Tolle Lege Volume 5, edited by students Sara Reams and Mandee Grote, features eight essays selected by student editors from over 60 submissions.

Every year, editors select one essay to receive the $100 Tolle Lege prize. This year’s winner is Patricia Lester ’11 and her essay on the theological significance of the new translation of the Mass.

Other pieces include an essay on the ethics of international military interventions, a study of the details of the Genesis creation story, an inquiry into the philosophy of Elizabeth Anscombe, and an article on moral issue in the juvenile justice system.

“It is always a pleasure to be able to share the outstanding work our students do in their study of philosophy and theology here at the Mount. The quality of these pieces, for an undergraduate journal, is very high, and we certainly could have included many more pieces of high quality that didn’t make the final cut,” says Dr. David Cloutier, co-faculty advisor of Tolle Lege and Theology professor.

Tolle Lege is a student journal of theology and philosophy published by Mount St. Mary’s University.  Essays written by any student of the university on any topic in theology or philosophy are considered for publication, though preference is given to undergraduates.

The journal is staffed by a team of Mount students, who, assisted by two faculty advisors, have complete control over the editorial process, including the selection of essays to be published.

The journal takes both its name and its inspiration from St. Augustine, in whose thought theology and philosophy are merged in a unified search for truth.

Tolle Lege, Volume 5 is available in Philosophy and Theology Departments in Bradley Hall and online at http://www.msmary.edu/College_of_liberal_arts/philosophy/department-of-philosophy/tolle-lege/.
