Dead Man Walking: The journey continues
Dead Man Walking: The Journey Continues
Acclaimed Author and Activist to Speak
Emmistburg, MD – Mount St. Mary’s University will host Sister Helen Prejean, author of Dead Man Walking: An Eyewitness Account of the Death Penalty in the United States and advocate of the abolishment of capital punishment, for her presentation "Dead Man Walking: the Journey Continues." The presentation takes place Sunday, November 14 at 6:00 pm in the Mount’s Knott Auditorium.
Sr. Prejean’s experience as a spiritual advisor to a death row inmate in Louisiana inspired her to write the best-selling and Pulitzer Prize-nominated book Dead Man Walking. This began her journey of advocating for the end of the use of the death penalty in the United States. The account of her initial work with a death row inmate was developed into an Oscar award-winning motion picture in 1996 starring Susan Sarandon and Sean Penn.
The presentation will focus on Sr. Prejean’s on-going work with death row inmates, her reasons for fighting against the U.S. death penalty and her concerns about the possibility of executing wrongly accused individuals.
Sponsored by Mount St. Mary’s University and inspired by the university's support of the Catholic Mobilizing Network to End the Use of the Death Penalty, "Dead Man Walking: the Journey Continues" is free and open to the public.
