Finals Food: Eat your way to an A

Finals food: eat your way to an A

Nikole Gavriilidis/The Echo

After a long and arduous semester, the end has finally come. The joy of the holidays and a brand new year are right around the corner. But in order to get there you must first get through finals.

In order to excel through next week without getting completely rundown, here are some helpful tricks to incorporate into your studying agenda:

For breakfast choose fiber. This fiber is found in whole grain cereals, whole grain bread options and oatmeal. These whole grains slowly fuel your body with energy rather than a temporary rush that would come from a sugary cereal or bakery option.
Remember to drink water throughout the day. Your body needs water for every body process, and not getting enough will hinder its performance.

When it is getting late and deadline is approaching, it may be tempting to reach for sugary food options like candy and soda for a boost. Instead look for something more satiating like banana or another piece of fruit. The sugar in bananas is digested as a carbohydrate to fuel your body as well as an electrolyte that maintains normal nerve and muscle function.

If you are snacking while studying remember not to eat out of the box so as to be mindful of your portion control. Mindless eating leads to an excessive intake of calories, fat, or sugar that you may not have planned on.

Coffee and tea are great options for liquid energy boosts in favor of commercial energy drinks whose ingredients lists are practically incomprehensible.
