Our Mountain Home: Renovation of Terrace Residence Halls |
“The magnitude and urgency of this project leaves no room for failure. And I know its success can ONLY be guaranteed with your generosity. With this said, I am officially launching a fundraising drive to raise $8 million for our Terrace, and I take this opportunity to lay out the case for your support.”
—President Thomas H. Powell ( View Dr. Powell's Video Message ) |
Why Renovate?
For the past decade, we have been diligent with our upkeep, spending hundreds of thousands of dollars patching and repairing. However, there comes a point when it is no longer cost effective or prudent to postpone the larger task.
|
What are the Mount’s student housing needs? About 90% of our undergraduates live on campus. Approximately 30% of these students live in the Terrace. Improved gathering spaces and meeting rooms will enhance their sense of community and belonging. |
What major improvements will be done? Renovation plans for the Terrace (DuBois, Bruté and McCaffrey Halls) include upgrading the building’s wiring, plumbing, heating and air conditioning, floors, and walls. Plans also include installation of elevators, wheelchair accessibility, and modest remodeling to refresh study lounges, meeting rooms and activity spaces. |
When will the Terrace Renovation be complete? Phase I of this project, the renovation of DuBois Hall, was completed in December 2008. Following completion of McCaffrey Hall in December 2009, restoration of Bruté Hall will be completed in August 2010. |

If you ever lived on the Terrace, you know the simple truth—our historic landmark dating back to 1825, is in great need of a major renovation. Due to the enormous nature and cost of the task, it was delayed time and again, leaving it to future generations to undertake. The situation can not be ignored any longer.
The Time is Now— The Responsibility is Ours |
We ask you to join us in this essential restoration by making a gift or pledge to the Terrace Residence Halls Renovation. Please consider making a gift in honor of your unforgettable Terrace memories. Naming opportunities are listed below. |
