Basílica de los Angeles: The most important church in Costa Rica, in Cartago (the first capital city of Costa Rica). It is Cartago’s Cathedral, named after the country’s patron saint Virgen de los Angeles (called also La Negrita). The basilica was built to mark the place where it is believed the Virgin appeared to a mulatto peasant girl. Sarchí: It is the country’s famous art and craft center. It is famous for its wooden furniture and especially the hand painted oxcarts. Any merchandise bought would be shipped to the U.S. upon request for a fee. Ram Luna: A restaurant at the top of one of the surrounding mountains in San José, where every Wednesday, besides the all-buffet-style dinner, there is a show of typical dances of the different regions of Costa Rica. Note - Dr. Diana Rodriguez-Lozano's responsibilities as group coordinator are limited to the time in San Jose, Costa Rica.
