Mission Statement

Mount St. Mary’s will celebrate its bicentennial in a manner that will enhance the national identity of the university.

General Purpose

Members of the Bicentennial Commission will serve as leaders and ambassadors for Mount St. Mary’s University. The members will actively participate in recommending policies related to the planning of events. The president will call on this prestigious group for perspectives and recommendations, for action and for individual support.

Major Responsibilities

• To participate in strategic planning for the bicentennial, including yearly goals.
• To chair or cochair a committee.
• To develop subcommittees and enlist volunteer committee members for each.
• To report and coordinate work of subcommittees for the commission.

Structure

• Chair, two vice-chairs and bicentennial director
• Commission members have been chosen based on stature, leadership achievement and a deep commitment to Mount St. Mary’s University.
• The commission will continue its operations until the conclusion of the bicentennial celebration.

Meetings

• Commission members will attend a minimum of four meetings a year.  Tentatively, four meetings have been planned (June, October, January and March), with conference calls held at least monthly.
• Commission members will be invited to attend events on campus and in the region.
