Aquatics Exercise Program

Water exercise is commonly used for its rehabilitative properties. What most people don’t realize is that aquatic training is an excellent way to add variety to your workout, while still achieving cardiovascular and strength gains.

Class Description and Schedule

Arthritis Aquatics is a structured recreational program in the pool under supervision of Arthritis Foundation-certified leaders. (Arthritis Foundation Members $44). Allows you to exercise with minimal strain on your joints and muscles. Gentle activities and exercises will help you gain strength and flexibility, rexulting in decreased pain and stiffness.

Schedule: Mon., Wed., & Fri. from 9:15 – 10:15 a.m.

**Note: Sept-March the pool water temperature drops several degrees to accommodate the university's swim team which results in the class not being an official Arthritis Foundation program. The class will continue to meet during the above time with the same level of instruction.

► Deep Water Fitness is a great workout that puts minimal stress on joints. Includes a shallow water thermo warm up and pre-stretch. Participants will use flotation belts and dumbbells to participate in a cardio warm-up, body toning exercises, aerobic travel, a warm down, and stretches to improve flexibility. This is a class for individuals who want a challenge. **Participants must be comfortable in deep water. **

Schedule: Mon., Wed., & Fri. from 9:15 – 10:15 a.m.

**All classes are on-going. If Frederick County Schools or Frederick County feeder schools are closed due to inclement weather then classes will not be held. **

Did You Know...

  • Water is 12 times more viscous than air, providing greater resistance

  • In water at chest height, the body will weigh 35% of normal body weight. At shoulder height, this decreases to 10%, resulting in less joint stress and greater range of motion.

  • Studies have shown that the same degree of muscle fitness can be achieved in water as on land. Strength and toning results can be achieved in 1/4 the time, with gains 4 to 12 times faster in water.
