2013 Mountward Bound Trip Options
Encounter is an engaging retreat providing an opportunity to get connected with Mount students and your soon-to-be classmates for fellowship, reflecting with your peers, sports, and free time. Led by upperclassman, Encounter provides the opportunity for preparing for the challenge of the transition from home to campus life, excelling in your studies, and living your faith.
Participants on Exploration will spend 5 days camping, climbing, canoeing, and more in the land surrounding the Mount! Discover new, fun activities, meet your classmates, and engage in discussions about your transition to college life. No prior experience is needed and all necessary gear is provided.

What can you build in one week? Urban Ops participants will explore the topics of service and justice in Baltimore City. Spend five days building and restoring homes with People's Homesteading Group of Baltimore, while meeting with community leaders committed to providing positive neighborhood support (and enjoying local Baltimore traditions like an Orioles game!). CORE Team leaders will guide you through your week and facilitate discussions & reflections, getting you ready to transition into the Mount.
Expedition is a 5-day adventure through Shenandoah National Park. Carrying your food and gear in a backpack, you will experience the beauty, fun, and lessons that the wilderness has to offer as you hike to a new camp each day. Highlights of the trip include summiting Old Rag Mountain, back-country rock climbing, and the amazing friends you'll make within your group. Your trip leaders will provide opportunities to discuss the transition to college and life at The Mount. No experience necessary! We will provide expert instruction, food, and equipment for this amazing backpacking trip.
Guided by the Office of Social Justice CORE team, Serve participants will spend 5 days with local community organizations including housing assistance programs, human services, and food assistance programs. Each day, we'll have time to reflect and discuss how we can be agents of positive social change and work for equitable communities in our world. Participants in Unity will spend 5 days taking a journey to the many iconic and historical attractions that our region offers. Through experiential learning, students will dialogue about topics related to diversity and learn to appreciate the way our unique stories and experiences intersect and unite us. Participants will also establish connections to their fellow peers, student leaders, and campus administrators while becoming acclimated to campus life.
