Frequently Asked Questions When is orientation? Orientation will be held on June 13-14 and June 20-21. Check in is from 11-1 p.m. on the Friday of each weekend and activities wrap up around 1 p.m. on Saturday. Students have the choice to attend orientation on the weekend works best for them. Where does it take place? Orientation will be held on the Mount St. Mary’s University campus. There will be signs on campus and people to help direct students to where they can check in. What should I wear? It is recommended that students wear comfortable clothing. You will be inside and outside throughout the day and it is strongly recommended you wear comfortable shoes. It is advised students check weather forecast before coming to orientation. Do I need to RSVP? Students do need to RSVP before coming to orientation. Students need to indicate which weekend they are attending and which tests they will be taking during orientation. An RSVP form will be sent home to incoming freshmen when they pay their enrollment deposit. Is child care provided? Child care is not provided during Orientation, and all of the activities that take place during orientation are geared toward tudents and their parents. Am I required to attend all days? All new students are required to attend all days of Orientation. If new students are unable to come during one of the weekends they need to make other arrangements to visit the university to take requires tests and register for classes. What will we be doing? During orientation, new students will be gaining general but important information about the Mount. They will be staying in a residence hall, choosing classes for the fall, and learning about how to get involved on campus. Orientation is also an opportunity to meet some of the people with whom students will be spending the next four years. Are my parents and family members allowed to come? Parents are encouraged to attend orientation. We keep them just as busy as the students with information sessions and activities. We do not recommend bringing other children along to orientation. Does it cost anything for my parents and family members to come? Orientation is free to parents unless they are staying on campus. How much does orientation cost? The cost of orientation for students is covered in the enrollment deposit that new students pay. Will food be provided? Lunch and dinner is provided on Friday, and breakfast and lunch is provided on Saturday. Do I have to take a placement test if I do not plan on pursuing a language? Language is part of the core curriculum at the Mount. You are encouraged to take a placement test even if you do not plan on pursuing a language because you could test out of language completely. Where can my parents stay? Parents can stay on campus or off campus, depending on their preference. If they are staying on campus they will be in an apartment sharing a common room, small kitchen, and bathroom with other parents.
