The Third Century Scholars Program

Making College a Reality for Motivated Students

The Third Century Scholars Program assists low-income, underrepresented students from the Washington, DC metro area to obtain a college degree and return to the area to serve and lead in their communities. The program provides financial support, as well as mentoring and social support, to help students succeed in earning a bachelor’s degree in business or education at Mount St. Mary’s University.

Financial Support

Third Century Scholars receive Mount St. Mary’s University scholarships, other financial aid, federal grants and student loans that will cover the complete cost of attendance (tuition, room, board, fees and personal expenses) through graduation as long as they continue to make satisfactory progress toward their degree.

Who May Apply?

  • Highly motivated students who wish to pursue a bachelor’s degree in business or education
  • Must have successfully completed a college prep curriculum with a B or better average and achieved SAT or ACT scores comparable to those of typical accepted Mount aplicants
  • Must be an ethnic minority student (U.S. citizen) residing or attending high school in the Washington, D.C., metro area
  • Must demonstrate financial need—eligible to receive a federal Pell Grant
  • Must plan to live on campus
  • Open to individuals of all faiths

“The Third Century Scholars Program has helped me leave the city life and open my eyes to a new environment with a wide variety of diversity.”
--Josemar Garcia, Third Century Scholar from Archbishop Carroll High School, majoring in business and planning to open a business in D.C. when he graduates
