Thought for the Week It may be tempting to get distracted this week when listening to the readings. We have heard them before; Jesus is the Good Shepherd, we are the sheep, his flock. We may feel that we have heard this message all the time when people are describing our relationship with Jesus. But I think that we should take a closer look at the readings this week. Yes, there are many references to being sheep and being shepherded. And yes, we may have Psalm 23 memorized. Nevertheless, we need to be made aware of the message, that when we follow Jesus, our shepherd, we will be led in right paths and be saved. The image of Jesus as our shepherd is made more pertinent to us when we look at the last phrase of the second reading, that when we return to God, we are returning to "the shepherd and guardian of your souls" (1 Pt. 2:25). This is what we want. We want someone to take care of our souls, and when we put our faith in Jesus and follow him this happens. Do not become distracted by the voices of others that try to lead us down a path that does not lead to life, which takes us away from the shepherd. The shepherd prvoides protection for his sheep from all sorts of dangers and our faith in Jesus protects us from all the thieves and robbers who come to destroy us. So, this week, pay attention to when the shepherd is calling you and follow him because he will protect you and lead you to life. Have a blessed week following our Shepherd, Christy Condyles |
