Service TripsImmersion Trips...Service Trips to the EXTREME FallServe 2009- The Best of Both Worlds- Students have the opportunity to immerse themselves in two very different communities. Trip 1 will be to Philadephia, Pennsylvania. Working alongside the Daugthers of Charity, trip participants will be learning about organizations and agencies, including schools/after-school program, thrift stores, and community construction/revitalization. Time will also be spent learning about the Philadelphia community (with plenty of time to sample an authentic Philly Cheese Steak). Trip 2 will head southwest to Vanceburg, KY. While staying at Glenmary Farm, trip participants will fully immerse themselves in community service. Without electronics or even knowing what time it is, students can begin to understand life in a community in Appalachia. Check out our students' reactions to the Philadelphia trip! WinterServe 2010- Hands On New Orleans - This trips is an exciting new training and service opportunity for our CORE Leaders! Students will have the opportunity to participate in the Martin Luther King Jr. Week of Service in New Orleans, LA. Mornings will be spent participating in service projects around the community including book and clothing drives, school (re)construction, and after school programs. Evenings will be spent taking part in conferences, film showings, and concerts centered around Dr. King's life and legacy. SpringServe 2010- Construction Challenge and CityServe! Break out your tool belts, it's time for spring break! Students will be participating in Habitat for Humanity's Collegiate Challenge! Team 1 will be headed south to Jacksonville, Florida and working with HabiJax! Team 2 will head west to Morgantown, West Virginia. Both tips will afford students the chance to work together on consturction projects. Much progress will be seen after a week of hard work. CityServe will let students stay local and work with various organizations in Emmitsburg, Baltimore, and DC. SummerServe 2010- Project Belize is an Adventure/Service trip to Punta Gorda, Belize. At the end of May, students enter a journey to central America, where they help construct churches in Mayan Villages, work in Mayan schools, experience Mayan family homes and food, all the while exploring the beauty and nature of God's gifts in this glorious country. Activities such as caving, hiking, snorkeling, drumming and dancing are just a few of the adventurous activities that are experienced.
