Tuning In The semester is going really well so far. The philosophy courses I'm taking are tough, so I take that as a sign that I've chosen the right major. One thing I've been doing is a weekly radio program on our FM campus radio station, WMTB. I have a slot that is two hours long every Friday, from 6-8 p.m. I've only done one show so far, but I think I'm getting the hang of it. I've even launched a small website for it that can currently be found at http://eshow.maclenet.com/ I try to play a mix of stuff that you don't typically hear on college radio (or any radio, for that matter), including genres like industrial, big-beat electronica, neo-classical and older hip-hop, punk and metal. Our station also has an online stream linked to my site, so feel free to tune in to hear my program, or anyone else's for that matter. I have also begun contacting different artists that I like and asking for CDs to add to our station's collection. So far I have received feedback from three, which is a lot considering I have only done one show thus far. It's very cool being able to help promote and get the word out on bands that you've liked for a long time. Doing this radio show feels great because it's as if I'm making the step from just being a consumer of music to rationing it out to people who otherwise would not be exposed to it. This student-run radio station is yet another one of the many new experiences I've had since enrolling in the Mount. |
