Spring Break and Habitat for Humanity Hey everyone! I just got back from an amazing spring break in Jacksonville, Florida. I went with a group from the Mount for Habitat for Humanity. There were 15 of us who drove down in 2 Mount vans. We spent the night in Savannah, Georgia on the way down and at an alumni’s home in Charlotte, North Carolina on the way back. The trip was incredible. We were in Florida for one week, sleeping at a church two blocks from the beach. The trip only cost $100, and our meals were paid for by the Mount. We had beautiful weather and great company…you can’t get much better than that! This was my second year doing Habitat, so I did feel a little more experienced this time around. I spent most of my work days hammering on the roof or painting. We spent our free time going out to eat, laughing at each other, going to the beach, and visiting St. Augustine. To me, the best part about the trip was meeting the family members who will be living in the homes that we built. My other favorite part was the community feeling that developed between all of us that went on the trip. We really came out of it as a family, and have already planned several dinners and get-togethers for the next few weeks! Next month we meet up with the students that did Habitat in West Virginia to compare experiences. I can’t wait…but until then, its back to the school work! I am beginning to teach more and more…I will tell you more about that next month! |
