LOFT Housing The other night I joined LOFT. LOFT (Lifestyles of Opportunity and Temperance) is a welcoming community for students who are dedicated to a substance-free lifestyle. My roommate Eddie and I did not enter the Mount as members of LOFT, but were placed into LOFT housing as honors students (there was a shortage of freshman guys in LOFT housing this year, so they placed a few students from the honors program in Pangborn, the LOFT dorm. Eddie and I made a number of friends in LOFT and were embraced by the community. We decided that since we don’t smoke and don’t drink (and all students, LOFT or not, sign a Residence Life contract which says they will not drink if under 21) we would join LOFT. We noticed that the housing itself was nicer than standard housing, so that’s a plus. The other night was the housing lottery for members of LOFT. My R.A. Ryan decided to hold the lottery like a party. To be honest, I thought it wouldn’t be that exciting. Fortunately, I was wrong. LOFT rented Purcell hall for the party and there were plenty of refreshments, lots of good music, karaoke and video games on the big screen TV, and plenty of people to chat with. Every twenty minutes to half hour, we paused to pick our rooms for next fall. Eddie and I will be rooming together again next year, sharing a suite (which is only available in LOFT housing) with our friend Cliff, who will get his own room because he’s an R.A. Suites come with two bedrooms, a bathroom and a larger common room. I’m looking forward to next year with two guys that have become very good friends of mine. |
