English as a Second Language (ESL)
Academic Support Program

The Mount St. Mary’s Seminary ESL program helps international seminarians prepare for the priesthood while enrolled in the ordination formation program, along with the Master of Divinity or Master of Arts (theology) degree programs.

The ESL program at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary is unique.
We offer individualized English instruction that focuses on each seminarian’s particular language needs. Class sizes are very small, with most instruction delivered in one-on-one student/instructor classes. Additionally, our state-of-the-art language lab helps seminarians master the pronunciation and listening comprehension skills integral for ministerial success.

Our ESL program emphasizes the acquisition of academic and theological English needed to succeed in an American seminary. However, we also provide a Peer Tutoring program and classroom instruction that focus on everyday English and American culture, which are essential for future pastoral ministry.
