Born January 22, 1927 Baptized January 29, 1927 Solemn Profession as a Crosier August 28, 1946 Ordination June 1, 1951 Professor of Moral Theology, Mount St. Mary's Seminary 1971-2009 Died July 29, 2009 On Tuesday, August 4, 2009, the Mass of Christian Burial was offered for the repose of the soul of Fr. Zylla, long-time professor of Moral Theology and seminary formator at Mount St. Mary's Seminary. Bishop Barry Knestout, S’89, Auxiliary Bishop of Washington, was the main celebrant of the Mass which was attended by Archbishop Daniel Cronin, Archbishop Emeritus of Hartford, and over 100 concelebrating priest faculty and alumni. Fr. J. Daniel Mindling, OFM, Cap., Academic Dean, was the homilist. Download an audio file of the funeral Homily Over 20 Knights of Columbus served as ushers at the Mass and presented the nephew and niece of Fr. Zylla with a testimony of condolence on behalf of the Germantown council for which Fr. Zylla served as chaplain. Msgr. Steven P. Rohlfs, S’76 Rector, read testimonial letters from six bishops who were Fr. Zylla’s former students. After the conclusion of the Mass, following the In Paradisum, all the priests sang Salve Regina as the body left The Chapel of Immaculate Conception. The four Crosiers in attendance then sang their traditional Dutch song Lang Zo You Leven In De Gloria.
