Admissions to the Seminary

Mount St. Mary's Seminary has trained over 2,600 men for a lifetime of priestly ministry within the church. Student candidates must be sponsored by a diocese or religious order, and have met all academic requirements before applying to study at Mount St. Mary's as a seminarian in the Ordination/Master of Divinity degree program. Sponsored candidates who have not yet met the academic credit requirements may apply to the pre-theology formation program to prepare for these degree programs.

The Seminary also welcomes applications from those interested, as lay students, to pursue the Master of Arts (theology) degree program or the Bachelor of Sacred Theology degree program, although it should be understood that these programs are built predominately out of courses in the Ordination program.

No more than forty-five (45) semester credits may be transferred toward the Master of Divinity degree, no more than thirty (30) semester credits may be transferred toward the Bachelor of Sacred Theology degree, and no more than six (6) semester credits may be transferred towards the Master of Arts (Theology) degree.
