 | Anne Marie Hallinan Honored with Seton Legacy of Charity Medal Anne Marie Hallinan, pastoral associate and assistant director of campus ministry at Mount St. Mary’s University, was recently honored with a Seton Legacy of Charity Medal. |
She was recognized for charitable works in the spirit of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton. The Most Reverend Kevin C. Rhoades, Bishop of the Harrisburg Diocese in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, presided at the service. Hallinan is a graduate of the Mount’s first co-ed class and now coordinates retreats, RICA and other pastoral programs at the university. “She ignites the spirit of Elizabeth Anne Seton in the hearts of her students through prayer, examples and service,” says Mount President Thomas H. Powell. She also teaches fifth grade Catholic Faith Formation at Saint Joseph Church in Emmitsburg, and has taught various levels of education at Mother Seton School, also in Emmitsburg. Fifty one people from diverse backgrounds and countries such as Italy, South Korea and Canada received the medal. Recipients this year also included the Most Reverend Harry J, Flynn, archbishop emeritus for the Archdiocese of Saint Paul-Minneapolis and Sister Mary Ann Daly, S.C., executive director of the Sisters of Charity Federation. Each contributed in a significant way to social services, education, health care, promoting the awareness of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton or spiritual formation in the spirit of the Seton Legacy of Charity. According to Sister Mary Jean Horne, D.C., “recognizing women and men who portray characteristics of Elizabeth Ann is a very direct way of acknowledging the strong influence of our Saintly Foundress. In their personal lives and in their many-faceted positions, they are actualizing the values and virtues Saint Elizabeth Ann taught on these very holy grounds.” For more information, please contact the Office of Communications at 301-447-5366. |
