Why Do Criminals Do What They Do? Priest/FBI Psychologist Finds Answers EMMITSBURG, MD – Mount St. Mary’s University announces veteran FBI Forensic Psychologist and Roman Catholic priest, Fr. Anthony Pinizzotto will speak at the Mount on Tuesday, November 11 at 7pm in the Mount’s Knott Auditorium. Fr. Pinizzotto discussion will focus on violence against law enforcement officers and his perspective on investigating violent criminals using forensic psychology and his experience and reliance on ethical standards. Fr. Pinizzotto, an Oblate of St. Francis de Sales, will also share how he divided his time between his parish-work and the FBI. "I'm looking at the human person from various perspectives--the psychological, emotional, environmental, and spiritual--in an attempt to understand why we do the things that we do,” says Fr. Pinizzotto. “Forensic psychology gives me the opportunity to look at issues clinically as well as experimentally in order to test the hypotheses that psychologists have developed over the years”. “Fr. Pinizzotto’s storied career, coupled with his enormous academic and research endeavors places him among the elite within the public safety community,” says Joseph Vince, Mount professor of sociology and criminal justice. “The community interested in law enforcement, intelligence, forensic science, and criminal law will benefit from hearing Father Pinizzotto’s many accomplishments.” The lecture is part of a series sponsored by the Mount’s Criminal Justice Program and Delaney Center for Public Sector Information which teaches people how to competently analyze and disseminate information/intelligence to accomplish their agency’s mission. The lecture is free and open to the public. For more information please contact the Mount’s Joseph Vince at 301-447-5373 or visit www.msmary.edu.
