Red Cross Names Mount College of the Year The Greater Chesapeake and Potomac Blood Services Region of the American Red Cross recently named Mount St. Mary’s University ‘College of the Year’ for the university's commitment and continued support of campus blood drives. In the past 2 years the Mount has increased units collected by 40%. According to Irene Powell, wife of Mount President Tom Powell, and head of the Mount Family Association, Red Cross workers have told her that Mount students are among the best donors they encounter. The Mount holds blood drives twice a semester with a collection goal of over 400 units per year. Meeting that goal increases the total percentage of units donated by 40%. The next Red Cross blood drive will be held November 24th. “It is an honor for the Mount to be recognized and is both personally and professionally gratifying,” said Melissa Crabbs, the Mount's director of conferences and special programs. “The best thing we can do is to continue supporting the American Red Cross Blood Drives.” |
