Campus Renovations Led by VP of Business and Finance, Michael Malewicki Fall 2008 Update from Mount Annual Fund As the Mount ventures into its third century, it stands poised to embark upon ambitious building projects and much needed campus improvements. Those of you who were on campus this summer have seen the birth of some very exciting projects, most notably the renovation of the Terrace. These projects and renovations are only made possible because of our generous and devoted supporters.
Michael Malewicki, the Mount's vice president of business and finance has the charge of heading up these projects and shares his thoughts below on some of these exciting upgrades and renovations planned for the next few years. "The Mount is involved in a myriad of campus improvements. Our largest and most visible project is the renovation of the Terrace. We have already begun work in DuBois Hall and we hope to finish by the New Year. In the years to follow, we will work our way through the Terrace, renovating Brute Hall, followed by McCaffrey Hall and finally Basil Hall. This multimillion dollar renovation campaign is a huge financial undertaking and is made possible by the support of generous alumni, parents, friends and the Mount Annual Fund. In fact, a percentage of the support raised by the Office of Annual Giving is helping to pay for the debt service for the Terrace loan.
Students will soon see the beginning of the Delaplaine Fine and Performing Arts Center renovation. The complete overhaul will begin this fall. The Office of Annual Giving has become directly involved in the completion of the Fine Arts Center. In fact, the Mount Annual Fund has committed itself to help raise the final $1.8 million needed to finish the project. I am also happy to announce that as part of our environmental sustainability initiative, we are working on supplying part of the building's energy needs with geothermal power. The Mount Annual Fund offsets a majority of the energy costs of the University- so much of your support will be directed towards increasing our dependence on 'green energy resources.' But perhaps most of the help we receive from the Office of Annual Giving goes towards funding our yearly operating expenses and the areas of the greatest need. For example, you will notice the next time you are on campus the newly bricked crosswalks. Those were made possible by the Annual Fund. You may also notice new lighting that makes our campus safer and more beautiful. These were also purchase by funds from our Annual Fund donors. The Annual Fund also pays for the utilities bill, library resources, student activities and lab equipment. We very much appreciate our Annual Fund donors. On behalf of the the Office of Business and Finance, thank you very much for your generous donations to the Mount Annual Fund. Your donations may not be the most visible, buy they are certainly the most vital to the success of the University and an invaluable resource. Thank you!" --Michael Malewicki, vice president of business and finance |
