Mount St. Mary’s Seminary to Host Marian Symposium As part of its Bicentennial Celebration, Mount St. Mary’s University and Seminary will host a Marian Symposium on October 9 - 11, 2008. The symposium will include nationally-renowned theologians and academics who will address various Marian topics such as Mary in Scripture, Mary in Catholic Doctrine and Spirituality and Marian Teaching of Pope Benedict XVI. The three-day event will also include Marian music and art, and a variety of devotions to the Blessed Virgin. Archbishop O'Brien from the Archdiocese of Baltimore will celebrate Mass on October 10 and consecrate the university and seminary to the Blessed Virgin. “From her beginning in 1808, Mount St. Mary's has borne the name of Mary, the Virgin Mother of God, and promoted devotion to her among the people of God,” says the Mount’s Reverend Frederick Miller who organized the symposium. “The Mount and our community are delighted to host the Marian Symposium.” Highlights of the Marian symposium include: October 9th The Blessed Virgin Mary in the Life and Ministry of the Priest Rev. Msgr. Michael Magee, S.S.L, S.T.D. Monsignor Michael Magee, a Priest of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, holds a Licentiate in Sacred Scripture from the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome and a Doctorate in Sacred Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. He is Professor of Scripture and Systematic Theology at Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary, Overbrook, Pennsylvania. October 10th The Blessed Virgin Mary and Priestly Formation: Reverend John Cihak, S.T.D. Father John Cihak, a Priest of the Archdiocese of Portland in Oregon, holds a Doctorate in Sacred Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. Father Cihak, a Pastor in the Archdiocese of Portland, teaches Systematic Theology at Mount Angel Seminary, Saint Benedict, Oregon. Mary’s Fiat: Our Response of Faith: Sister Mary Johanna Paruch, F.S.G.M., Ph.D. Sister Mary Johanna, a Franciscan Sister of the Martyr Saint George, holds a Doctorate in Catechetics from Maryvale Institute, Birmingham, United Kingdom. She teaches Theology and Catechetics at Franciscan University of Steubenville in Steubenville, OH. October 11th The Dogmas of the Immaculate Conception and the Assumption: Reverend Frederick Miller, S.T.D. Father Miller, Archdiocese of Newark, holds a Doctorate in Sacred Theology from the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas in Rome. He is an Associate Professor of Systematic Theology at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary. Pope Benedict XVI on Mary as a Model of Faith: Paige Hochschild, Ph.D. Paige Hochschild holds a Ph.D. from the University of Durham in the United Kingdom.
