The Mount Receives Special Business Accreditation Only one of three in Maryland Recognized EMMITSBURG, MD-Mount St. Mary's University has achieved accreditation from the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education for its Business, Accounting, Sport Management, and Information Systems undergraduate majors, its accelerated adult degree completion program and its MBA program. The IACBE is a premier professional accreditor for business programs in student-centered colleges and universities and has developed accreditation principles based on best practices in business education. It was created in response to the expressed needs of higher education presidents, chief academic officers, and business deans and chairs who wanted an accreditation process that was mission-based and outcomes driven. "Students in today's market are looking for aggressive and successful goal oriented business curriculums, we offer that at the Mount and are thrilled the IACBE recognized our commitment to excellence in business education," says Mount President Thomas Powell. "We are the only University in the area with the IACBE accreditation." The three-year-approval process included a review of the department’s mission statement, the specification of formal learning objectives in all of its programs, measured student learning, and the establishment of continuous improvement processes which respond to the measured learning. The Mount submitted a lengthy self-study report which documented that faculty and other university resources are sufficient to successfully deliver learning objectives and that formal processes are in place to measure student learning and to respond to the measured learning. The IACBE accreditation came with a special commendation for the faculty: "The amount of scholarly and professional activities is one of the strengths of Mount St. Mary's University's business faculty and it is commended." “The successful peer review and accreditation of our programs reflects the quality of the faculty as educators and business professionals who seek to graduate students who possess appropriate technical skills and a strong commitment to ethical decision making. Given the strengths of the faculty and their commitment to continuous improvement, our programs will continue to grow in size and academic quality. Our students and their employers will be the primary beneficiaries of the accreditation" says Mount Business Chairman, Dr. William Forgang. IACBE has over 200 members in the United States and around the world. |
