Mount St. Mary’s Retires Jack Sullivan’s Number Emmitsburg, MD—Former Mount St. Mary’s men’s basketball star Jack Sullivan had his jersey retired at a halftime ceremony at the Mount’s home game against Saint Francis (Pa.) on Jan. 16. Sullivan is the Mount’s all-time leading scorer with 2,672 points in 105 career games. A 6-4 forward, Sullivan currently holds 11 career and single season records at the Mount. For his career, Sullivan averaged 25.4 points and 11.6 rebounds from 1953-57. As a senior, Sullivan scored a school-record 1,070 points, averaging 33.4 points and 10.9 rebounds while leading the Mount to a 27-5 record and a spot in the NCAA College Division Final Four. The Mount won 20 or more games in each of his final three seasons at the Mount. Sullivan holds career records at the Mount for points scored (2,672), scoring average (25.4), field goals made (993), free throws made (686) and free throws attempted (961). He tops the Mount’s single-season charts in points (1,070), scoring average (33.4), field goals made (402), field goals attempted (787), free throws made (266) and free throws attempted (367). Sullivan’s #32 will be placed alongside the #830 that the Mount retired last year in honor of legendary head coach Jim Phelan, who is fourth all-time in NCAA Division I with 830 career wins and the #33 of Fred Carter which was retired on Dec. 1. |
