Mount’s Fed Challenge Team Wins First Place at Regional Competition A Record-Breaking Victory Emmitsburg, MD- Mount St. Mary’s University brings home their 4th overall win in the Regional College Fed Challenge Competition. The competition took place on November 2, 2007 and is a nationwide academic challenge organized by the U.S. Federal Reserve System to educate students about the Federal Reserve and its role in the economy. The Mount team is made up of 6 undergraduate students who faced-off against 13 area colleges and universities. The students were asked to prepare and present a 20 minute assessment of the national state of the economy and propose a recommendation on the most convenient and effective course for monetary policy in the U.S. Then, they defended their proposed policy and answered questions from a panel of Federal Reserve judges. “This is a big win for the Mount,” says University President Thomas Powell. “We have one of the top 10 teams in the nation and are proud of its dedication and continual success.” The team, advised by the Mount’s Dr. Frank Zarnowski and co-coached by Dr. John Larrivee, includes; Brian Ogle, Matt Sanicola and James Berry of Frederick, MD; Jennifer Kim of Gaithersburg, MD; Favio Osorio of Lima, Peru and Aaron Landers of Mount Airy, MD. Mount St. Mary’s University is the only school in the competition to ever have 4 regional wins. This regional competition was sponsored by the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, Baltimore Branch. Finalist included teams from the U.S. Naval Academy and the University of Delaware. |
