Virginia Coalition, Catch 22 and Parker House and Theory will “Rock the Mount” at Mount St. Mary’s University’s Spring Concert on April 21 Emmitsburg, Md.—Virginia Coalition and Catch 22, a D.C. area folksy rock group and a New Jersey-based ska/punk band, respectively, will share the stage at Rock the Mount at Mount St. Mary’s University on Saturday, April 21. Opening for them at 6:30 p.m. is Parker House and Theory, a Boston-based band whose music has been dubbed by one critic as “bluesy rock.” The event is open to the public, and will be held in the Knott Arena. Doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets are available now. They are $11 for Mount students and $16 for the public if purchased in advance in person at the ticket office in Knott Arena; $12 for students and $17 for the public if purchased online at www.mounttickets.com; and $16 for students and $21 for the public if purchased at the door. Parking for the concert is $5. Virginia Coalition—or VACO, as loyal fans affectionately refer to them—released their newest album, “Live at the 9:30 Club,” in 2006. It is the group’s fifth album. The band, formed 10 years ago by four friends who met in high school, writes their own music and each member can play almost every instrument. VACO has appeared with bands such as Dave Matthews Band, Blues Traveler, Maroon 5, O.A.R., Ben Folds Five and Counting Crows. They are set to go on stage at 7:15 p.m. For more information on the band or to hear clips of their music, go to their website at www.virginiacoalition.com. Catch 22, also formed in 1996, released their sixth and latest album, “Permanent Revolution,” in 2006. In it, their eclectically horn-driven, ska sound delves into the life of Leon Trotsky, the turn of the century influential Marxist theorist and Bolshevik revolutionary. Their unique sound is a product of their funky, instrumental collaboration, as the band includes a guitarist, bassist, drummer, trumpeter, saxophonist and trombonist. They will perform at 8:30 p.m. To find out more about Catch 22, or to subscribe to their mailing list, go to their website at www.njcatch22.com. Parker House and Theory performed at the Mount in the fall of 2006 and created such a buzz that they were asked to come back for an encore. The band will release a live album, “The Great Lavanchy,” this spring. Since their beginnings as an Emerson College “staple,” Parker House and Theory has become an in-demand act on the college circuit, thanks in part to their current tour. Their style, which blends the bluesy sound of a lead harmonica with gripping lyrics, won them a Boston Music Award in 2006 for best live band.
