Headline/Event title: Management Expert to Kick off Mount St. Mary’s University, Frederick Campus’ Mount Connections Lecture Series
Date: September 18, 2006

Dr. John Hook, professor emeritus of management at Mount St. Mary’s University, will discuss his new book Leading at the Top: Requirements for Senior Executive Effectiveness, in a talk scheduled for Monday, September 18. The discussion is part of MountConnections, a new lecture series held at the Mount’s Frederick campus. It begins at 5:00 p.m. and will be followed by a book signing at 5:45 p.m.

In, Leading at the Top: Requirements for Senior Executive Effectiveness, Hook notes that in the last few years, organizations of all types have experienced failures in leadership at the top levels of management. His discussion will focus on what he defines as four critical areas of competence required of senior leadership. “I don't pretend to have all the answers,” says Hook, “but I think I have identified a serious problem. The book provides my personal framework or lens to view the top leader's job, and some suggested tools to do it better. My hope is that readers will integrate their own ideas into my framework and come up with their own operating principles. The modest goal: some improved senior leaders sprinkled through the system."

Leading at the Top: Requirements for Senior Executive Effectiveness is a 165 page paperback currently available through Amazon, Barnes and Noble and Borders. Copies of it will be available at his lecture for purchase and signing.

The lecture  is free and open to the public, and will be held at the Mount’s campus in Frederick, Md, located at 5350 Spectrum Drive.

Subsequent speakers in the Mount Connections series will be Ross Peddicord on October 16, discussing his adventures starting Maryland Life magazine and Dr. Karl Einlholf, professor of business at the Mount, whose topic on November 13 will be “Management Economics:  How Understanding Economics Can Make One a Better Manager”.
