Stafford Loans In order to receive a Stafford Loan, the student must have completed the FAFSA and received an award letter from the Financial Aid Office. Students who choose to borrow a Stafford Loan must complete the following: Suggested Lenders: To compare the lenders listed below and borrower benefits, please visit www.selectyourlender.com. 1. Master Promissory Note (first-time borrowers only): This form is mailed to you by the financial aid office. If you did not receive a copy or need another copy, please call the office at 301-447-5207 or email finaid@msmary.edu. Complete and return the MPN along with the Certification Form to the financial aid office. For more information on completing the MPN and choosing a lender, please refer to "About the Master Promissory Note" below. 2. Stafford Loan Certification Form: If you did not receive this form from the financial aid office, you may download a copy by clicking here. Refer to your financial aid award letter to determine your maximum eligibility. Then indicate the amount you wish to borrow under the “Requested Loan Amount” in the box in the middle of the Certification Form. Return the form to the financial aid office along with your MPN. Returning students receive this form with their financial aid award letter. 3. Entrance Interview (first-time borrowers only): First-time borrowers must attend an entrance interview session during the first week of school. Information on exact times and locations of these sessions will be provided upon the student's arrival in August. About the Master Promissory Note Familiarize yourself with the Borrower’s Rights and Responsibilities section, retaining the Borrower Copy for your records. In completing the MPN, do not leave any question unanswered. If you do not have a driver's license, answer Question #6 with "N/A." Also, make sure that your references in Question #10 are filled out completely and have separate addresses. For Questions #8-9, select from one of the lenders below. Recommended Deadline: The MPN & Certification Form should be mailed to the financial aid office by June 27th, so the loan can be reflected on the bill.
