Outside Scholarship OpportunitiesThe financial aid office has received information on the following outside scholarships. Below are requirements, if any, for each scholarship as well as details on how to apply. If you have questions about any of the items listed, please contact us and we will try to answer them. Please note any posted deadlines! (Listings are in deadline order.) The following scholarships are for the 2009-10 academic year. Nancy Talbot Scholarship Award - The Talbots Scholarship Foundation will award $180,000 in college scholarships for the 2010 academic year, including up to 10 $15,000 scholarships and one $30,000 scholarship to an extraordinary finalist demonstrating courage, conviction and an insatiable entrepreneurial spirit. Applicants to the 2010 Talbots Scholarship Foundation must: - Be women currently residing in the United States or Canada;
- Be women who have earned a high school diploma or their GED on or before September 2000;
- Be enrolled or planning to enroll in a full- or part-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited 2- or 4- year college, university, or vocational-technical school;
- Be attending the full 2010-11 academic year and receiving a degree no earlier than May 2011; and
- Have at least two semesters (24 credit hours or more) remaining to complete an undergraduate degree as of the beginning of the 2010 fall academic term.
Applications are available online at https://www.scholarshipamerica.org/talbotswomen. The deadline for applications is Saturday, January 2, 2010. Only the first 5,000 eligible applications received will be processed. "Kids’ Chance of Maryland Scholarship – A Mount St. Mary’s student may receive this scholarship awarded by the Kids’ Chance of Maryland, Inc. The scholarship is intended to aid an undergraduate student who has had a parent catastrophically injured or killed in an employment-related accident in Maryland. Students must be between the ages of 16 and 25. The parent’s death or injury must have resulted in a substantial decline in the family income. The scholarship awards vary and depend largely on the needs and educational expenses of the student. Please write: Kids’ Chance of Maryland, Inc. P.O. Maryland Mensa Scholarship – This is an essay contest for 2009-2010 school year. A Mount St. Mary’s University student may receive an award from $300 - $1000. The following points are provided from Maryland Mensa: · Announced postmark deadlines are strictly enforced · Submitted essays must be postmarked no later than January 15, 2010 · Requests to Maryland Mensa for applications by mail must be postmarked no later than December 31, 2009 and must include a self addressed stamped envelope · It is not necessary to be a Mensa member to enter and win · The contest is free and open to people of all ages. · Maryland Mensa can accept entries only from those whose residences are in the zip code ranges of 20600 – 20699 or 21000 – 21999. Others should visit the website to find applications for their locales Winners are announced after May 2010. In order to receive an award, each winner will be asked to certify enrollment in a degree program at an accredited U.S. institution of post-secondary education for fall 2010. Baltimore Community Foundation Scholarship – A Mount St. Mary’s Student can receive any one of twelve different scholarships in 2010 – 2011 by filling out the common scholarship application. All completed scholarship applications with all supporting materials must be mailed to the Baltimore Community Foundation, 2 East Read Street, Baltimore, MD 21202 and be postmarked no later than April 1, 2010.
