| Honors Program The Honors Program offers talented and motivated students an educational experience that integrates curricular, co-curricular, and extra-curricular learning in both interdisciplinary and major areas of study. Honors courses feature individual attention and close faculty-student interaction in a setting of small classes. The Honors sequence fulfills core requirements in the first six semesters of study and culminates in an intensive research project in the major during the senior year. Honors at Mount St. Mary’s University is offered to academically gifted incoming students and to talented students who apply to the program after their first or second year of study. During their first two years of study, honors students take core classes together as they are engaged in study of the history and ideas that have shaped the Western world. The junior year features an Honors Theology course and a study of American Experience. Honors students are also encouraged to attend a series of leadership seminars conducted by the Department of Business and the Office of Student Affairs. Senior honors students spend their fourth year working on a significant research project in their major field of study that is presented to the campus community in the weeks before graduation. The Honors Program promotes an atmosphere of collegiality among its members through a series of socials, dinners, lectures, and field trips under the auspices of The George Henry Miles Honor Society. The Honors Program also encourages students to offer their talents to the university and to the local community through service programs sponsored by The George Henry Miles Honor Society. |
