Students must select at least one course from each of the following categories: • Organismal Biology: BIOL 201, 300, 303, 330 or 335 • Molecular and Cellular Biology: BIOL 306, 315, 420, BIOCH 405 • Ecology and Evolution: BIOL 204, 225, 250 or 406 In addition, all biology majors must take BIOL 333 in their junior year and BIOL 410 in their senior year. Honor students should discuss the best time to take BIOL 333 with their advisors and mentors. BIOL 450 and BIHP 471 may be substituted for BIOL 410 with the permission of the department chair. Students pursuing the biology major must take a minimum of four upper level courses at the 200 level or higher which are 4 credit laboratory courses. Students must take one additional upper level course (at the 200 level or higher) which may also be a 4 credit laboratory course; this last requirement may also be met through an internship, undergraduate research or an independent study which involves laboratory research. Biology majors are also required to complete CHEM 101-102, CHEM 201-202 and mathematics study through MATH 247. Students are strongly advised to complete MATH 248 since graduate schools generally require both Calculus I and Calculus II. |
