COURSE WAIVERS If a student has a strong undergraduate background or significant professional experiences in a field, he or she may request to have a core course waived by his or her advisor. A waiver is not an award of credit, but it permits a student to substitute an approved higher-level course in place of the core requirement. Waivers are awarded to strengthen a student’s academic program. Students interested in pursuing a course waiver may request an application for waiver from the MBA office. CONCENTRATIONS With concentrations in finance, marketing and management, students can specialize in the field of their choice. A concentration comprises two elective courses in any of the specified areas plus a relevant MBA 599 project. A formal declaration of concentration is required at, or before, the completion of 18 credits. Alternatively, students may choose to follow a general MBA curriculum and enroll in two electives that do not fall under a concentration area. Students who are required to enroll in MBA 511 should note that this course satisfies one of the two required electives for a general MBA degree; however, it does not count toward any particular concentration. If a student wishes to pursue a concentration, a total of two electives in the specified area in addition to MBA 511 are required, bringing the total number of credits to 39. CPA TRACK PROGRAM Students interested in an accounting career may wish to participate in the Mount's CPA Track Program. The program prepares students to meet the Maryland state requirements for the CPA examination while working toward an MBA in a curriculum that integrates a practicum. Students who already have a bachelor's degree in accounting or a related undergraduate degree should contact the MBA director to determine if this program will meet their needs.
