Groundsworker (Job Search Status: Currently Accepting Applications)Hours: Full-time, 40 hours/week, Weekends
Minimum Pay Rate: $9.50/hour Essential Position Functions:
Grounds Maintenance Performs any combination of the following tasks: cuts lawns, cuts and trims around walks as required. Prunes shrubs and trees, sprays lawns, shrubs and trees with fertilizer or insecticide, rakes and burns leaves, cleans or sweeps up litter. Plants grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs, waters lawns and shrubs during dry periods. Cleans drainage ditches and culverts. Operates mowing and weeding equipment. Collects trash from outdoor locations around campus. Shovels snow from walks and roadways; spreads ice melt as needed. Moves furniture and other materials as requested. Completes labor needed for work order and event set-up requests. Marginal Functions: 1. Repairs fences, gates, walls and walkways. 2. Other job related duties as assigned.
Special Knowledge: 1. Basic knowledge of lawn maintenance and gardening techniques. 2. Must be familiar with and adhere to all the safety rules and regulations for the University Safety Policy which apply to the work environment. Minimum Qualifications: 1. Ability to read, write and follow instructions 2. One year gardening and one year labor experience required. 3. Valid driver’s license. 4. Overtime may be required. Position Location: Physical Plant Morton Compound; various areas around campus. Equipment Used: Basic gardening hand and power tools such as trimmers, weed eaters, mowers, etc. Physical Requirements: 1. Must be able to lift 100 lbs. 2. Must be able to lift and carry heavy loads up and down stairs. 3. Must be able to work in all types of weather. 4. Must be able to work under pressure and with little notice. Supervision: May supervise student aides and temporary workers.
