Assistant Professor of History The Department of History in the College of Liberal Arts at Mount St. Mary’s University invites excellent teacher-scholars to apply for a tenure track appointment in Early Modern European history starting in August 2010. Preference will be given to candidates with a specialization in France or Spain between 1500 and 1800. Mount St. Mary’s is a small Catholic university with a strong liberal arts core curriculum. The successful candidate will teach courses in the Renaissance and Reformation era, early modern France or Spain and other upper level offerings. Secondary field of specialization open. In addition, the faculty member will contribute to the core curriculum, teaching in the Western traditions program, joining a departmental rotation teaching freshman seminar, and occasionally teaching in other interdisciplinary core curriculum programs. Strong teaching skills, scholarly promise, a willingness to serve the campus community, and a completed Ph.D. by August 2010 preferred. Excellent ABDs will be considered. Applications acknowledged by e-mail. Mount St. Mary’s seeks faculty members eager to engage and support our Catholic identity. Application materials should address this by discussing how you might contribute to the University’s Catholic liberal arts mission, how your work engages with the Catholic intellectual tradition, or how your own faith tradition informs your vocation as teacher and scholar. We will conduct initial interviews in January at the American Historical Association Annual Meeting in San Diego.
