DIRECTOR OF ATHLETIC DEVELOPMENT

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Director of Athletic Development is an administrative position, appointed by the President. The Director serves at the will and pleasure of the President. The position requires a demonstrated commitment to the Catholic, liberal arts mission of the University and a working knowledge or previous experience with a Catholic population

MAJOR TASKS:

1. Serve as the Department of Athletics’ main liaison with various constituents, and coaching staff, assisting them with aiding the department through major gifts, working on grants, endowments and capital gifts.

2. Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward major gift donors as part of an overall strategy to support the financial needs of MSM Athletics.

3. Capital fundraising activities associated with enhancing or developing athletics facilities, commitments to existing or new athletics endowments, special restricted gifts and new high-end annual fund donors.

4. Actively participate in and abide by the reporting and tracking of prospects through practices established by the University Advancement Office and the Department of Athletics.

5. Establish annually in consultation with the Vice President of Advancement a set of measurable goals for total visits, proposals submitted and dollars raised.

6. Assist in the planning, staffing and implementation of special events around the major university events and other Athletics events.

7. Attendance at weekend and evening events as well as extensive travel.

8. Other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Advancement.

POSITION AUTHORITY:

The Director of Athletic Development reports to the Vice President of Advancement and works closely with the Advancement staff and the Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing/Promotions and the Mount Club Director.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor’s Degree and have at least three years of experience in higher education fundraising or a related field with previous experience in direct solicitation of major gifts preferred.
