Aquatics Programming Coordinator DESCRIPTION: The Aquatics Programming Coordinator (APC) reports primarily to the Director of Recreational Services and secondarily to the Aquatics Director/Head Women’s Swimming Coach. The APC has functional responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the pool and is responsible for overseeing aquatics staff, implementing various aquatic programs and ensuring that all appropriate water health and safety standards are maintained. Vital components of this position are a strong commitment to team work, excellent customer service skills, and student development. Specific duties include but are not limited to: RESPONSIBILITIES: - Hire, supervise, train, schedule, and evaluate all aquatic instructional staff.
- Hire, supervise, train, schedule, and evaluate all lifeguard staff
- Development, implement new or improve on current aquatic instructional programming to meet the needs of all patrons of the ARCC.
- Assist in the facilitating of the training of Athletic/Recreation leadership staff in First Aide, CPR, AED and Blood borne Pathogen.
- Provide Aquatics Director with statistical data and other information for inclusion in monthly and annual reports.
- Work with Aquatics Director to develop and implement appropriate pool schedule, pool events, and staffing needs.
- Assist Aquatics Director with the development of aquatics department policies and procedures.
- Oversee daily physical operation of the pool when Aquatics Director is unavailable.
- Perform a minimum of (8) hours of “on deck” time per week. “On deck” includes but is not limited to lifeguarding, aquatic fitness instruction, and swimming lesson instruction.
- Work cooperatively with university departmental user groups: Athletics, Student Affairs, Auxiliary Services, etc.
- Assist Aquatic Director in managing all physical operations of the aquatics area including but not limited to regularly scheduled maintenance, chemistry, pool cleaning, and chemical supplies. HVAC responsibilities fall under Physical Plant staff supervision.
- A maximum of 25% of scheduled hours each week will be assigned under facility management of the ARCC.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Oversee student manager.
QUALIFICATIONS: - Bachelor’s degree in recreation, physical education, sports administration or related field.
- At least two (2) years experience and proven success in aquatics programming
- One (1) year of experience supervising student personnel including lifeguards and instructional staff.
- Current Lifeguard certification from a nationally recognized program.
- Have a current Lifeguard Instructor Certification or be able to attain certification within six (6) months of employment.
- Obtain Maryland Pool Operators certification within 2 months of employment.
