Assistant Director of Counseling for Alcohol & Drug Education

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Assistant Director for Counseling Services is a full time, 12 month position and reports to the Director for Counseling Services. The position assists in the fulfillment of the mission of the University and the department to provide students with an environment that promotes faith, discovery, leadership and community in support of the University’s mission and Catholic values. The services and programs of the Wellness Center are intended to facilitate the intellectual, emotional, relational, physical and spiritual development of Mount St. Mary’s students and help them become healthy, responsible, effective individuals and contributing members of a thriving and diverse community.

MAJOR TASKS:

Administrative Tasks of the Assistant Director:
1.  Providing outreach education, counseling  and assessment to students in areas of health and wellness, alcohol, and other substance-abuse related issues
2.  Ensuring that programs and education are grounded in research and evidence-based practices
3.  Coordinating of substance abuse efforts at Mount St. Mary’s University
4.  Providing leadership for effective policy and alcohol and other drug initiatives
5.  Coordinating substance abuse prevention services and education
6.  Conducting research and outcomes evaluation of key interventions
7.  Facilitate one-on-one and group education on the use and abuse of alcohol and other drugs
8.  Administer, interpret and publicize surveys using environmental management strategies
9.  Developing and implementing prevention strategies and community building programs
10. Seeking alternative funding sources
11. Will serve in an on call rotation for crisis incidents

Clinical Tasks of the Assistant Director:
1.   Providing counseling to students in general areas related to the University population
2.   Conduct counseling for mandated students in the area of alcohol and other drugs
3.   Review readmitted students for eligibility for student status due to alcohol or drug related departure
4.   Assist in the transition of students who return to the University after outpatient/inpatient treatment

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

The Assistant Director position requires a demonstrated commitment to the Catholic, liberal arts mission of the University.  It is required that the successful candidate will possess a Master’s degree in a relevant field and have a proven record of success in higher education leadership.  The candidate must be licensed or licensed eligible in the State of Maryland.
