Emphases in Religious Education, Pastoral Ministry and Youth Ministry
The theology department offers three emphases for undergraduate students who major or minor in theology: Religious Education, Pastoral Ministry and Youth Ministry. These programs have been designed to meet the needs of the church in the United States for educated lay people who are called to lay ecclesial ministry. Undergraduate students will be exposed to basic theological orientations and skills that will assist them in developing their own spirituality and gifts for service and ministry to children, youth and adults in the Christian community.

Professional Certification in Catechetics and Youth Ministry
The theology department’s Certificate Programs in Catechetics and Youth Ministry are designed for lay people who are actively involved in pastoral ministry, or for individuals who are seeking to begin such involvement. The certificate programs offer lay people the opportunity to deepen their knowledge and to improve their skills for engagement in the areas of catechesis and youth ministry. Completion of the required theology courses qualifies the candidate for certification through the Archdiocese of Baltimore.

Interdisciplinary Minors
Many of the department’s elective courses are cross-listed with other exciting programs, allowing students to add further minors in Latin American Studies and Non-Western Studies.
