The department offers a major and minor in Spanish. Students may also become certified to teach Spanish. The department highly encourages majors in international studies, business, political science, history or English to consider a double major or minor in Spanish. An interdisciplinary minor in Latin American studies is also available.

2009 STUDENT RESEARCH FESTIVAL

Erica George, Senior, presented her research project entitled “Orgullo Mount Marketing Campaign:  Pride in Both Hispanic Heritage and Achievement at the Mount” at the 2009 Student Research Festival on April 5, 2009.  Erica was mentored by Dr. Christina Blackshaw of the Department of Foreign Languages & Literatures.

This project presented research that examined the need to publicize Mount St. Mary’s University to Hispanic communities and examined how the Mount might allow students to take pride in their heritage as well as in their accomplishments at an institution.
