IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS/ALERTS

2010 Graduate Commencement Ceremony:
The 2010 graduate commencement ceremony originally scheduled for May 19th at 7:00 will now be combined with the undergraduate ceremony and be held on Sunday, May 16th.

MEDUC 530 will be held on Tuesday evenings from 6:00-9:00 on alternating weeks at the Emmitsburg campus, not 6:00-8:30 as orginally stated on the Spring 2010 schedule.

MEDUC 604 will be held on Tuesday evenings from 6:00-8:30 at the Frederick campus, not on Wednesday evenings as originally stated on the Spring 2010 schedule.

COURSE UPDATE:
EDUC 325/MEDUC 526 Reading in the Secondary Content Areas I is taken during fall semester.
EDUC 427/MEDUC 527 Reading in the Secondary Content Areas II is taken during spring semester with Internship I.

ANNOUNCEMENT FOR ELEMENTARY/SPECIAL EDUCATION CANDIDATES ONLY:
SPED 433/434 and MSPED 500/509, previously taught in July, have been moved to May in order to provide direct experience in the inclusive classroom.  For more information contact Dr. Megan Mackey at mackey@msmary.edu.

REMINDER FOR WEEKEND COLLEGE OR MAT ELEMENTARY AND ELEMENTARY/SPECIAL EDUCATION CANDIDATES:
To meet all national and state standards all candidates now complete Internship I and II.  To accommodate the needs of our adult learners the Education Department has spread the Internship I experience over two semesters.  In the fall, candidates are expected to take science (EDUC 330-1/MEDUC507) and math (EDUC 335-1/MEDUC 506) methods concurrently which includes 10 full days or 20 half days in a PDS.  In the spring, candidates are expected to take social studies (EDUC 331-1/MEDUC 513) and Reading (EDUC 313-1/MEDUC 512) methods concurrently. Again there is a 10 full day or 20 half day PDS requirement.  The full Internship II requiring 5 full days a week in a PDS follows the following fall semester.

CERTIFICATION UPDATE:
Beginning July 1, 2009, certification officials will issue elementary certificates for grades 1-6.  Middle school will no longer be printed on the elementary education certificates.
