Declaring a Major

Although declaration of a major is not required until April of sophomore year, students may indicate their intent to major in a particular discipline as early as freshman year. To assist in the process of declaring a major, many programs within the Business, Accounting and Economics Department host career information sessions and panels. Once students have declared a major, they can choose an advisor from the department.

Advising at Mount St. Mary's is taken very seriously. Advisors meet with advisees before each registration period to review progress, ensure all requirements are being met and help them plan for their personal and career objectives after graduation. Early declaration of a major assists in this advising process by lengthening the time students have to meet with faculty familiar with the field.
