Advising and Careers

Advising students on the proper blend of courses from inside and outside the department is an important part of the faculty’s responsibilities. Students have a department advisor in their major to help them define and achieve their long-term personal and career objectives on a continuing basis. This is an excellent opportunity to mentor students and guide them toward successful lives and careers as they prepare to work effectively in all types of organizational settings.

Career planning puts students in charge of their lives, and the department takes an active part in assisting students in this critical process. We maintain an active partnership with our students and the Mount Career Center. The center provides a four-year Career Access Plan, internship opportunities and job placement services to help students as they work to discover, evaluate and implement their career plans.

The Mount maintains close contact with its alumni. Survey data show our graduates’ great success in pursuing career objectives, passing the CPA examination, admission to graduate study and employment in the full range of business, government and not-for-profit enterprises. The number of organizations that annually interview on our campus and those that provide internships are also indications of the high regard the business world has for our students’ qualifications. Finally, the department’s Senior Seminar affords students an opportunity for self-assessment and career planning, and assists students in acquiring a capacity for continued lifelong learning necessary to maintain competency throughout their careers.
