Department Statement of Purpose

The purpose of the Department of Business, Accounting and Economics is to:

Graduate responsible, competent and ethical business professionals

What does this mean for you? The perfect blend for success. We continually enhance our curriculum to ensure that it is receptive to change, is consistent with trends in the fields of business, accounting and economics, takes into account the demands of the marketplace, and integrates our core Catholic liberal arts tradition.

To achieve this mission and to help graduates translate their education into professional and civic success, the faculty and staff uphold and promote the following core values:

Faith: to be mindful of Catholic values and to affirm the moral standard central to maintaining the dignity of each person. To pursue this core value, the faculty accepts the responsibility of role models who live their beliefs by acting in an ethical manner with our students, colleagues, and broader community.

Discovery: to encourage inquiry, expression, critical analysis, and problem solving skill. To pursue this core value, our academically qualified and professionally active faculty provides challenging academic programs that emphasize students’ ability to learn and to think, which promotes success in today’s global business environment.

Community: to respect others and to be responsible as individuals and as members of a diverse learning community. To pursue this core value, the faculty creates a community of inquisitive learners who engage in free expression and dialogue and adhere to professional and community standards.

Leadership: to cultivate educated leaders who are concerned with the ethics, justice, and social responsibility of their individual and organizational actions. To pursue this core value, the faculty through its teaching, advising, and research promotes high standards of quality and excellence in our academic programs.

Aligned with core values, we aspire that our students fulfill the following learning objectives:
