Stations of the Cross

The Stations of the Cross are a way to commemorate Jesus’ Passion and love for us in a visible and prayerful way. The Grotto Stations of the Cross, located on Corpus Christi Lane, are bronze plates set inside of Mary’s Mountain stone. The following are mediations upon the Stations—the “essence” of each station—for your help.

First Station: Jesus is condemned to death – He took our place even yet while we were and are sinners. So let us help Him in this world to save souls.

Second Station: Jesus picks up His Cross – The Cross is the equivalent of all the past and future sins of the world. O what love!

Third Station: Jesus falls the first time – We pushed Him down by our sins.

Fourth Station: Jesus meets His Blessed Mother –The exchange of glances between these two, Mother and Son, must have been riveting. Now, treat others, especially your parents, well.

Fifth Station:  Simon helps Jesus carry His Cross.

Sixth Station: Veronica wipes the face of Jesus – She dared to enter more into the Sacred Passion. Will you?

Seventh Station:  Jesus falls the second time – He fell because we did not reform our lives or take seriously the call to “repentance.”

Eighth Station: Jesus consoles the women of Jerusalem – Think of how, even in His sufferings and Passion, he consoled and helped others. Do the same.

Ninth Station:  Jesus falls the third time – Because of our sins, He seemingly cannot carry on. But He does.

Tenth Station:  Jesus is stripped naked – Think of the humiliations we put the Lord through. Change your life!

Eleventh Station:  Jesus is nailed to the Cross – Think of the pain He suffered while nails—our sins—were driven into His Sacred Body.

Twelfth Station:  Jesus dies on the Cross – By His death, life. By His Passion, bliss. By His Precious Blood, entrance into eternal life.

Thirteenth Station:  Jesus is taken down from the Cross – He is put in His Blessed Mother’s arms. Think of her sorrows.

Fourteenth Station:  Jesus is placed in the Tomb – All seems dark and despairing. We need the virtue of hope. Trust in the Trinity in trials.

Thank Jesus for His Divine Mercy and embrace Him more in prayer, in good works, in the Mass and especially in your heart!
