Father Thomas Smith returned to the Mount in August, 2011 after receiving his Master of Divinity degree from Mount St. Mary's University Seminary in 1982.

Since his ordination, Fr. Smith has been busy serving the Church in many capacities.  He has held positions, including:  parochial Vicar, high school chaplain, teacher, counselor, principal, parish administrator and Pastor.   

Most recently, Father Smith served the Archdiocese of New York as a Prison Chaplain for the Department of Corrections of the state of New York at four of its medium and maximum security correctional facilities. He resided at St. Joseph Church in Kingston, New York and assisted with parochial duties. While continuing his prison ministry and parochial duties Father Smith continued to offer parish missions, retreats and Days of Recollection, writing a monthly column in the Lincoln Eagle and appearing regularly on the New York Cable Access Station for religious programming in Ulster County New York.

In addition to serving as the Chaplain of the National Shrine Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes, Father Smith will oversee the formation programs for seminarians as Spiritual Director at the Seminary and will offer sacramental and spiritual assistance at the University’s Campus Ministry.
