The Frederick Campus hosted its third annual Student Appreciation Week during the week of October 28. Graduate Assistant, Melissa Siesputiowski (pictured above), coordinated the weeklong event for students currently taking classes in Frederick. A local establishment selected a night to provide dinner prior to class start at 6pm. Special thanks to these folks-Applebee's, Sam's Club, and Firehouse Subs-for treating them to a nice meal.

The purpose of the event was to show our gratitude to the students who go about their busy day, then diligently come to class in the evening. Each night, we held a raffle for a chance to win Mount gear. Congratulations to the winners:

It is Maryland's only accelerated MHA program and the classes are held on Monday nights at the Frederick Campus.

Community Ambassadors 2013

The Community Ambassadors for the Frederick Campus were out in full force at Celebrate Frederick's In The Streets on Saturday, Sept. 14. We had a beautiful fall day and the crowd was mighty. Thanks to all who volunteered their time to promote the graduate & adult studies programs.

From left to right: Ira Kest, Sr., Sarah Moore, Anthony Hawley, Heather Eagle, Philip Helmer, and Robert Crawson. Also inducted but not in attendance: Mark Devilbiss, Michael Davidson, Robert Gamble, Dawit Gebreyesus, and Brandon Warrenfeltz.

The Mount's Frederick Campus hosted its annual Alpha Sigma Lambda (ASL) Honor Society Induction Ceremony on Sunday, April 14, 2013. Eleven adult students were recognized for their special achievements in academic excellence while facing the competing interests of home and work. Family and friends were present to hear inspiring words from Dr. Gregory S. Ochoa, Academic Dean of the Frederick Campus. Dr. Ochoa shared his personal story of being an adult student with three small children at home. He recognized that without the support of his wife and other family members, he would have not been able to complete his degree.

The closing remarks were given by Tish Shirey, a 2012 ASL inductee. Her heartfelt message assured the newest inductees that their journey has just begun and they should continue to dream big.

Dr. Ochoa presented the official certificates and Janene Horne, Student Services Coordinator for these adult undergraduate students, proudly handed them their society pins and honor cords.

New Entrance Collage

Dedication & Reception to be held on April 17
(Invitation only)

Early this year, the University signed a seven-year lease to add 12,000 square feet to its current space of 16,000 feet at the Frederick Campus, allowing it to remain in and occupy the entire facility.  New ownership has been very supportive of the University’s expansion plans. Work of exterior improvements – including a new entrance and building signage – began this summer. Interior improvements will increase the number of classrooms by five, add additional offices, offer a new eating/lounge area, and feature a new lobby. The University anticipates that the interior improvements will be completed in time for the January 2013 semester.

This expansion will be fortified by the addition of a new Academic Dean, Dr. Greg Ochoa, as well as several full-time faculty members. New programs to be offered at the Frederick Campus are in development, and a few are coming on line this fall, including courses in government contracting and a graduate certificate program in logistics and supply chain management.

Being a former adult student himself, Adjunct Professor Kelly Garrett, knows that adult students are eager to learn something that is practical to their everyday work. "The real value we offer in the Mount's Masters of Health Administration program is the methodologies that students take away from class and can apply right away to improve their organizations," says Garrett.
