Beginning August 2011, Mount St. Mary’s University will offer a Master of Health Administration (MHA) program at the University’s Frederick Center for Professional and Continuing Studies. Approved by the Maryland Higher Education Commission and developed by the Richard J. Bolte Sr., School of Business, the graduate program will serve the fast-growing health care industry.

According to Dr. William Forgang, Dean of the Bolte School of Business, “The need for strong decision-making skills and ethical leadership in health care has never been greater.  This program aims to meet that pressing need.”  The student base for the new program is expected to be drawn from area hospitals, medical practices, insurance companies, pharmaceutical firms, life science and biotech firms, and the health-related activities within Fort Detrick. The MHA degree will also serve individuals wishing to enter the increasingly complex health field.

Classes for the MHA program will be offered in accelerated eight-week sessions, one evening each week, on a year-round basis.  Students will proceed through the two-year program in cohorts.  Dr. Edward Dolan, an alumnus of the Mount, and the director of the MHA program, notes, “a distinguishing feature of this program is the integration of the Lean Six Sigma Methodology, a comprehensive system of continuous quality improvement, throughout the curriculum.”

Faculty for the MHA program will include both full-time University faculty and experienced practitioners who will serve as adjunct instructors. According to Dr. Dolan, “our adjunct professors are established leaders drawn from a range of industries, including medical research, health care administration, information systems, logistics, insurance, and quality management.”

The program will be held at the Mount's Frederick Campus, located at 5350 Spectrum Drive near the FSK Mall. Interested parties may also call the Bolte School of Business at 301-447-5326, or go online at
